11:15, 18 December 2021 Nikon16-35 jucker.jpg (file) 296 KB Kgf The Nikon 16-35 at it's longest focal length <kbd>35mm</kbd>. For everyone who thinks you need wide angle for landscape shots, this is a good example. This shot will end up looking much better if we crop the middle third. There is already too much space pushing the village further away. If I were to use the widest angle, there would be almost nothing of interest visible in the shot. 1
11:19, 18 December 2021 Nikon16-35 widestatue.jpg (file) 301 KB Kgf The Nikon 16-35 at it's widest focal length <kbd>16mm</kbd>. These extreme wide angle shots are always tricky. I am actually much closer to the statue than you think. I need to hold the camera straight not to get too much distortion, and there is nobody in the shot where the wide angle looks unnatural. Keep it close, keep it centered and look for roundish features. 1
11:21, 18 December 2021 Nikon16-35 wide boathouse.jpg (file) 431 KB Kgf The Nikon 16-35 at it's widest focal length <kbd>16mm</kbd>. These extreme wide angle shots are always tricky. It helps that there are no people around, and the curved roof as well as the rounded thrash bins, curved lake-front all help keep this picture a bit more ''believable''. 1
11:24, 18 December 2021 Nikon16-35 wide wheat.jpg (file) 300 KB Kgf The Nikon 16-35 at it's widest focal length <kbd>16mm</kbd>. One thing to get used to when trying wide angle shots is to get close. You stick your lens right into the action so that you have something to fill the frame. Otherwise everything disappears in the distance and you have large bands of empty space top and bottom. 1
13:55, 18 December 2021 Nikon16-35 at16 f4.jpg (file) 255 KB Kgf This is the Nikon 16-35 at it's widest focal length <kbd>16mm</kbd> and its fastest <kbd>f/4</kbd> taking a picture of the Nikon Z FC. 14:21, 18 December 2021 Nikon16-35 vs 10-24.jpg (file) 414 KB Kgf Here we have two lenses that are almost identical. On the left you have the Nikon 10-24 a wide angle zoom for APS-C cameras on a Nikon D500 and on the right you have the Nikon 16-35 which is very close in the range it covers on a Nikon D850. 1
16:45, 18 December 2021 Nikon100.jpg (file) 333 KB Kgf The ultralight Nikon 100 on a Nikon D850. This small lens is <kbd>100mm</kbd> and <kbd>f/2.8</kbd> 1
16:47, 18 December 2021 Nikon100 leaves.jpg (file) 128 KB Kgf These leaves were shot using the Nikon 100 on a APS-C camera. Although the lens is not a macro it will allow you to get close. This is not a crop, it is the scaled from the original. 1
16:48, 18 December 2021 Nikon100 corn.jpg (file) 132 KB Kgf Corn shot using the Nikon 100 on a APS-C camera. 1
16:49, 18 December 2021 Nikon100 spider.jpg (file) 101 KB Kgf This spiderweb was captured using the Nikon 100 on a APS-C camera. 1
16:50, 18 December 2021 Nikon100 field.jpg (file) 68 KB Kgf This is a shot using the Nikon 100 on a APS-C camera. 1
16:51, 18 December 2021 Nikon100 heron.jpg (file) 462 KB Kgf Shots like these with the Nikon 100 on an APS-C camera are a bit more difficult as there is quite a bit going on here, and getting the focus on the bird at a distance with manual focus is not so easy. 1
16:52, 18 December 2021 Nikon100 landing.jpg (file) 394 KB Kgf I love longer lenses like the Nikon 100, here even a bit longer as it is on an APS-C camera. 1
16:54, 18 December 2021 Nikon100 pig.jpg (file) 186 KB Kgf With a lens like the Nikon 100 with only manual focus it is a bit more challenging to capture moving subjects well. But you are as happy as this cute pig here, once you manage to get it right. 1
16:57, 18 December 2021 Nikon100 vs 105.jpg (file) 318 KB Kgf The Nikon 100, here on the right mounted on the camera, is truly gorgeous. On the left, the formidable Nikon 105, which has macro, vibration reduction and a gorgeous autofocus. It also happens to be half a kilo heavier, or about 2.5 times heavier than the compact [Nikon 105. There will be cases where you ''need'' the bigger, better, and meaner Nikon 105, but for a wide range of cases, the little brother is just as good. 1

17:09, 18 December 2021 Nikon105 zfc.jpg (file) 319 KB Kgf Here we are comparing the 215gram Nikon 100 to its more capable brother the Nikon 105 with macro capabilities, by taking a picture of the gorgeous Nikon Z FC. This is by the Nikon 105 at the minimum focus distance of the Nikon 100 on a full frame camera. 17:11, 18 December 2021 Nikon105 zfc close1.jpg (file) 324 KB Kgf Here we are comparing the 215gram Nikon 100 to its more capable brother the Nikon 105 with macro capabilities, by taking a picture of the gorgeous Nikon Z FC. This is now what Nikon 105 can do better than the Nikon 100 as the minimum focus distance is much shorter. Note that this is not really the macro range. Compare to: * Nikon 100 the original * Nikon 105 at the minimum focus distance of Nikon 100 * [... 1
17:13, 18 December 2021 Nikon105 zfc close2.jpg (file) 313 KB Kgf Here we are comparing the 215gram Nikon 100 to its more capable brother the Nikon 105 with macro capabilities, by taking a picture of the gorgeous Nikon Z FC. This is now a shot that you start needing the capabilities of the Nikon 105. It is still not macro range, but not all lenses will allow you to come that close. 17:15, 18 December 2021 Nikon105 zfc close3.jpg (file) 359 KB Kgf Here we are comparing the 215gram Nikon 100 to its more capable brother the Nikon 105 with macro capabilities, by taking a picture of the gorgeous Nikon Z FC. Ok, if you wanted to make this shot, you really need a macro and the Nikon 105 is definitely the right choice. Note that there are few cases where you really need this capability. 22:15, 18 December 2021 Raw full.jpg (file) 980 KB Kgf Example image for a discussion on JPEG vs RAW taken by Nikon Z FC. This is the image stored in RAW format on the camera, it was scaled down and converted (ironically) to JPEG from the original for this webpage. The RAW image was 35'225'291 Bytes., more than six times the corresponding JPEG image. 1
22:15, 18 December 2021 Jpeg full.jpg (file) 173 KB Kgf Example image for a discussion on JPEG vs RAW taken by Nikon Z FC. This is the image stored in JPEG format, scaled down from the original for this webpage. In ''Normal'' compression the JPEG occupies 5'623'118 Bytes. 1
08:31, 29 December 2021 Tripod.jpg (file) 315 KB Kgf A typical macro setup using a tripod, although while this picture was taken the distance to the subject is actually out of the macro range (a normal lens would also made the same shot). 1
08:48, 29 December 2021 Tripod camera.jpg (file) 409 KB Kgf The same setup as in File:tripod.jpg seen from the camera side using a tripod. This is a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 105 in this case the older manual focus one. In such a setup autofocus is not really needed. 1
08:58, 29 December 2021 Tripod result.jpg (file) 535 KB Kgf This is the shot from File:tripod.jpg and also seen in File:Tripod_camera.jpg. As it is a manual Nikon 105 the aperture value is not in the EXIF. But it is around <kbd>f/22</kbd>, so that most of the board could be captured. That increases exposure time to <kbd>1/2s</kbd> 1
09:04, 29 December 2021 Muca.jpg (file) 120 KB Kgf This is Muca, a travel companion sheep, here in Ladakh India. This is a ''beanbag'' type of toy that has actually quite a bit of stability, and can be used as a ''cheap'' alternative for a tripod with some limited manoeuvrability. 1
18:23, 31 December 2021 Chroma full.jpg (file) 650 KB Kgf This is an example to show chromatic aberration where purple and green shadows occur on the edges of brightly lit corners. The problem is especially visible in the center left part in File:chroma_zoom.jpg. 1
18:28, 31 December 2021 Chroma zoom.jpg (file) 396 KB Kgf A 1:1 pixel crop from File:chroma_full.jpg that shows chromatic aberration very visibly. There is purple on the branches and green on the windows in the background that are not in focus. Notice that the problem is visible where there is the bright white background. This was shot using a Nikon 135 at <kbd>f/3.2</kbd> a very fine lens on a Nikon D500, if forced most lenses will have such issues. 1

20:58, 12 March 2022 Canon24 105 rhino.jpg (file) 743 KB Kgf Two rhinos in Zoo Zurich by a Canon EOS RP and Canon 24-105. 1
21:04, 12 March 2022 Canon24 105 nikon.jpg (file) 245 KB Kgf If you have any doubts about the Canon EOS RP or the kit lens Canon 24-105, take a look at this one. Of course what is not really visible for you is how easy it was to take this picture of the Nikon Z FC. Do not let the numbers fool you, this lens would allow you to take brilliant pictures. 1
19:24, 26 March 2022 T overview.JPG (file) 1.32 MB Kgf Overview picture for my simplistic sharpness test page. Showing the different focal lengths used in the test (<kbd>70mm</kbd>, <kbd>85mm</kbd>, <kbd>100-105mm</kbd> and <kbd>200mm</kbd>) as well as the two regions I have picked for comparison. Note how there is more light on the right hand side (the window is there) so there is all sorts of funny things happening in this picture. This is not a very ''studio like'' test, it is more quick and much more ''dirty''. 1
